YOU CALL ME BY NAME…BUT I DON’T THINK WE’VE MET
IT WOULD BE A SHAME, LOVE…ONE I QUICKLY WOULD REGRET
JUDGE ME BY NAME OR DEMAND MY RESPECT
CAN I UNDERSTAND THE GAME LORD? AT LEAST THE CIRCUMSPECT…
SHOULD I FEAR FIRE SHOULD I FEAR FLOOD?
THE TAMING OF DESIRE UNDEFINED BLOOD
I NEED TO BE RE-WIRED NEED TO BE MISLED
MOTHERS ALL RETIRED I NEED TO BE FED...
JUDGE ME BY THE SAME FOOLS AND DEFEND MY NEGLECT
THE RULES OF THE INSANE RULE…AUTHORITY DIRECT
SHOULD I FEAR FIRE SHOULD I FEEL FEAR?
A WORD TO THE UNWISER INTIMIDATE HERE
CAN I ASK YOU, CAN I QUESTION MY FAITH?
IF THE TEST IS TRUE WELL THEN WHAT DOES THAT SAY?
YOU CALL ME BY MY NAME…HOW QUICKLY WE FORGET
UNIMPORTANT IS THE BLAME…A TROUBLED GENUFLECT
SHOULD I FEAR FIRE SHOULD I FEAR PAIN?
IRRATIONAL DESIRE TO SEE YOU AGAIN
WHO WILL SEE ME HIGHER WHO WILL SEE ME THROUGH?
THE FUNERAL OF PYRE THE KERNAL’S VIEW…
SHOULD I FEAR FIRE SHOULD I FEAR FLOOD...
SHOULD I FEAR FIRE SHOULD I FEEL FEAR ...
SHOULD I FEAR FIRE SHOULD I FEAR PAIN...
SHOULD I FEAR FIRE SHOULD I FEAR PAIN...

death always brings a re-evaluation of life and three of my friends lost their mothers in the span of a couple of years...the "mothers all retired, i need to be fed" line alludes to the effort required in their daily lives in doing without...
the pyschology of those kinds of discussions can bring seemingly random inputs together to form coherent themes... this song incorporates a lot of that in its musical structure...
we had particular fun with the gtr leads in the song...those who know me would tell you i'm a rhythm guy (read "not very talented in bending the strings") (actually, i can't hold a rhythm either but that's not the point) i performed the first 2 leads, while Steve P actually bends the strings for the later leads...
