Let’s play a game of hide-n-seek, I promise not to peek
If I do you’ll let me know, It’s all part of the show
In the end you’ll hear me call “ollie ollie ollie in come free”
But you won’t heed that call…life’s little rules you never keep
The destiny inside…
The best in me declines…
Pardon me if I go blind…
The destiny inside…
Now let’s play another game, this one’s lined in shame
If you cheat I don’t want to know, it’s all “go, go, go, go, go”
In the end you’ll probably call “Are you coming are you coming home to me?”
But I won’t heed that call, one of the playful class ironies…
The destiny inside…
The best in me declines “thank you no thank you no”
Pardon me if I’m unkind…
The destiny inside…
The destiny inside…
What a lousy, pitiful game…we should be ashamed
What happened to life’s simpler plan? Going steady, just holding hands
Waiting and counting by the swings, riding double…that was the thing
The playground’s empty now…so’s my heart…
Here's one contrasting the simplicity of "kid-dom" and "adult" life. A buddy and i were talking about a spot in life to which you might return if you could... The poignancy of 4th or 5th grade when all the world was still yours to capture and the new feelings you had towards girls ... that look from the other side of the classroom that literally took you to another universe...And you really weren't thinking about anything base, just to exist with that other person in that other place, holding hands or awkwardly staring at one another for a million years....ahh, that's where life is/was....
this is a classical gtr with some ethereals to hold it up...my "brick hand" leads to color the middle...those cathedral bells remind me of 27th and Maryland...
We had a special treat for the engineering on this one...two of my favorite musicians , Krystal Baker and Sturgis Waters, run a studio in the Phoenix area, and Sturgis graced this song with his assistance....a real treat for me to work with him (and hopefully i can sneak in there and do some more!!)
